La recherche-action comporte deux caractéristiques principales : elle met en oeuvre la collaboration entre plusieurs types d'acteurs et vise une transformation de la réalité sociale. Elle possède des forces et des faiblesses différentes de la recherche à objectif strictement cognitif. L'article rend compte d'une recherche-action menée par des sociologues, des intervenants sociaux et des populations vivant en squats en Ile-de-France. Les auteurs analysent les enjeux méthodologiques qui se sont posés sur ce terrain particulier relevant de la sociologie de la déviance. Ceux-ci sont liés, notamment, à la participation de chaque groupe d'acteurs aux différentes étapes de la recherche, à la présence d'intérêts différents portés par chacun d'entre eux, et à la conciliation entre les principes habituellement de rigueur dans l'enquête sociologique et les principes de la recherche-action. The participation of Marginalised populations in research-action: a case study of squatters in the Ile-de-France region (Paris and surrounding region) Research-Action has two main objectives: to allow different players to cooperate, and to transform social reality. This methodology has both the strengths and the weaknesses of strictly cognitive research. In this article, the authors discuss a research-action project which brought together sociologists, social workers and squatters from the Ile-de-France region (Paris and surrounding region). Methodological issues that arise specifically in the context of deviance are addressed, notably the participation of the different players at different stages of the research project, their different areas of interest, as well as the reconciliation between more conventional sociological research and the principles of research-action.

Through raves and then subsequently through " free parties " and " teknivals " , French fans of electronic music have developed festive practices at the margins of the market and the state. In France, these events—especially so-called free parties—are often associated with free-access events or inversely with settings for parallel economies. And yet, these parties operate under a logic of gift-exchange, playing on its symbolic dimensions. The free party is experienced as a collective production, in the sense that the organizers of these sound systems expect an investment, an active participation from the audience, and also in that the participants, faced with the party-as-gift made by these collectives, are drawn into an obligation to contribute to the event in their own way. This participation can take the financial form of a donation, but can also be made by helping to set up or clean the event location, enlivening the festive space through spectacular street-theater, and also simply by dancing. This organization through gift-exchange is thus directly connected to the kind of participatory experience sought by the audience. The party-as-gift also prompts other collectives to offer their own festive gifts in turn; this entails a degree of emulation between sound systems. They acquire prestige and renown within this social world according to their capacity to provide both music and parties as gifts. 2 A reading in terms of the gift makes it possible to capture how the pleasures of giving and spontaneity can coexist with economic interests and prestige.

Symposium "Participatory Researches with deviants, marginalized and stigmatized groups. Theoretical, practical and ethical concerns"

The participation of people to the researches which concern them raises citizen, professional and scientific issues. This symposium focuses on the place of people with disabilities, experiencing poverty or discriminations, having behaviours or practices qualified as social deviance or delinquency.
Action-Research and some academic researches sustain participatory methods in order to generate social change and empowerment, but also to produce good science. In the professional fields of health and social work, there is a strong interest for participatory services. Participatory researches in these fields raise theoretical, practical and ethical concerns. This symposium intends to explore the participatory methods in their diversity, their purposes, theirs impacts on individuals, social groups and communities. It expects to analyze some participatory research experiences, methods and programs.
The symposium is open to researchers, social workers, health practitioners, users of health and social services, people who experiencing discrimination or stigmatization process. Considering the diversity of teams’ composition in participatory research, we expect different profiles of lecturers. Original modalities of presentation can be proposed. 
The symposium will held conferences, round tables and workshop’s sessions.

Colloque  "Les recherches participatives avec des groupes déviants, stigmatisés, marginalisés. Quelles approches théoriques, pratiques et déontologiques ?"

Organisé par le Réseau thématique Normes, déviances et réactions sociales (RT3) de l’Association Française de Sociologie (AFS) et le Centre d’Etude et de Recherche Appliquées (CERA)

La participation des personnes aux recherches qui les concernent est un enjeu citoyen, professionnel, scientifique. Ce colloque vise à interroger directement la place occupée dans les dispositifs de recherche par des personnes en situation de handicap ou de pauvreté, des personnes victimes de discrimination, ou encore des personnes engagées dans des conduites vues comme déviantes ou délinquantes. Promue par différents courants de recherche, objet d’un engouement dans les secteurs du travail social et de la santé, la participation soulève des enjeux théoriques, pratiques et déontologiques. Le colloque souhaite ainsi explorer la diversité des approches théoriques des recherches participatives, interroger leurs finalités, leurs effets pour les personnes concernées, analyser des méthodes, des dispositifs et des techniques d’enquête et de participation.
Si ce colloque concerne les chercheurs et chercheuses qui s’intéressent à ces thématiques, nous souhaitons qu’il puisse également s’adresser aux professionnel.le.s du travail social, aux bénévoles, aux usagers et usagères des dispositifs sociaux et patient.e.s des systèmes de santé, aux personnes affectées par des processus de relégation ou de stigmatisation. Différents profils de contributeurs et contributrices sont attendus, en lien avec les compositions des équipes de recherche, ainsi que des modalités originales de contribution ou de présentation.
Le colloque se déroulera sous la forme de conférences plénières introductives et conclusives, de tables rondes, et de plusieurs sessions d’ateliers se déroulant en parallèle.
